Access Africa Fund

Access Africa Fund is a for-profit Delaware limited liability company formed in June 2010, managed by MicroVest Capital Management, LLC. The fund aims to provide social impact and capital appreciation by lending local currency and making strategic equity investments in microfinance institutions (MFIs) throughout sub-Saharan Africa. By investing in these institutions, the fund seeks to improve the lives of the entrepreneurial poor and demonstrate that the microfinance sector in sub-Saharan Africa can be an attractive social investment.

The fund's investment strategy involves expanding access to financial services by supporting MFIs that serve underserved populations. It has made investments in countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Notably, in 2012, the fund, along with Grameen Foundation and KfW, invested in Musoni Kenya, the world's first 100% mobile microfinance institution. This investment aimed to enhance financial inclusion by providing microloans to individuals excluded from the formal financial sector.

Through its investments, Access Africa Fund contributes to the growth and sustainability of MFIs, enabling them to offer essential financial products like credit, savings, and insurance to households and small businesses. This support fosters economic development and poverty reduction in the regions where these institutions operate.
