Africa50 is a pan-African infrastructure investment platform established to help bridge the continent's infrastructure funding gap. It focuses on developing and investing in medium- to large-scale projects that have a significant development impact and offer appropriate risk-adjusted returns to investors. The platform operates across various sectors, including energy, transport, information and communications technology (ICT), midstream gas, financial technology (fintech), education, and health infrastructure.

The platform employs a comprehensive approach by facilitating project development, mobilizing public and private sector finance, and investing in infrastructure projects across Africa. It aims to catalyze public sector capital and mobilize private sector funding, delivering differentiated financial returns and impact. Africa50's investor base comprises 31 African countries, the African Development Bank, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), and Bank Al-Maghrib.

Africa50's investment strategy involves developing a pipeline of investment-ready projects, mobilizing public and private sector funding from within and outside Africa, and investing equity and quasi-equity alongside strategic partners. The platform has been involved in several high-impact projects, such as the Kigali Innovation City in Rwanda, which aims to be a mixed-use, master-planned innovation city to facilitate the development of pan-African talent and act as a technology innovation hub. Additionally, Africa50 has partnered with Masdar, a UAE-based renewable energy company, to accelerate clean energy projects across Africa, with a target of unlocking 10 gigawatts of clean energy projects by 2030.
