Amina Hersi Moghe

Amina Hersi Moghe, born in 1964 in Bungoma, Kenya, is a Somali entrepreneur renowned for her substantial contributions to Uganda's real estate and industrial sectors. She is the founder of Horyal Investment Holding Company Limited, which has developed several multimillion-dollar projects in Kampala, including the Oasis Shopping Mall and Laburnam Courts Apartments. These ventures have significantly transformed the city's urban landscape.

In 2016, Amina initiated the construction of the Atiak Sugar Factory in Northern Uganda, a $120 million project aimed at revitalizing the region's economy. The factory, which began production in August 2020, is expected to produce 50,000 tonnes of sugar per day and generate up to 18MW of electricity. It also provides employment opportunities for over 6,000 women, primarily as sugar-cane outgrowers and distributors of the final product.

Amina's entrepreneurial journey began in the late 1990s when she ventured into the hardware business in Kampala. Her success in this venture laid the foundation for her subsequent investments in real estate and industrial projects. Her achievements have earned her recognition, including the Woman Investor of the Year Award in 2008 and the Entrepreneur of the Year Africa award in 2019.

Through her investments, Amina has played a pivotal role in transforming post-conflict regions into engines of prosperity, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive growth and economic empowerment in East Africa.
