Disability Opportunity Fund

The Disability Opportunity Fund (DOF) is a community development financial institution (CDFI) based in Rockville Centre, New York, operating nationally. Founded in April 2007, DOF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to providing financial products, technical assistance, and advisory services aimed at enhancing the quality of life and building personal wealth for individuals with disabilities and their families. The organization's mission focuses on increasing access to appropriate and affordable housing and related services for people with disabilities throughout the United States.

DOF employs a mission-driven investment strategy that yields double bottom line results, combining financial returns with social impact. The organization finances high-impact projects through co-lending, direct lending, bridge and term loans, as well as gap, predevelopment, acquisition, and rehabilitation financing. Additionally, DOF offers sophisticated, customized advisory services, acting as a liaison for investors, banks, insurance companies, non-profit organizations, and other financial institutions. This approach ensures that financing is readily available to address the gap in housing and related services for people with disabilities and their families.

Since its inception, DOF has funded projects in 22 states, from California to Massachusetts and Florida to Wisconsin. The organization has grown from less than $400,000 in assets in 2008 to $38 million in total assets and $8.8 million in net assets, with half of these assets resulting from awards from the CDFI Fund. This growth underscores DOF's commitment to bridging the disability market and community development financial institutions, addressing the continuing needs of this growing market.
