Investor Details Founded: 1999

Established in 1999, the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) is the development finance institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), comprising 15 member countries. Headquartered in Lomé, Togo, EBID aims to promote economic development in West Africa by financing both public and private sector projects. The bank offers a range of financial services, including long, medium, and short-term loans, equity participation, lines of credit, refinancing, and financial engineering operations. Its mission is to contribute to the emergence of an economically strong, industrialized, and prosperous West Africa that is fully integrated into the global economic system.

EBID's operational activities focus on sectors such as energy, transport, health, water, finance, agriculture, education, and industry. The bank intervenes through its private and public sector windows, supporting infrastructure projects related to regional integration and other development initiatives. In 2006, EBID reorganized into a unified entity with two windows: one for promoting the private sector and the other for developing the public sector. This restructuring aimed to extend the bank's services to a wider range of stakeholders involved in sustainable economic development activities and programs at national and regional levels.

Over the years, EBID has achieved several key milestones, including its accreditation to the Green Climate Fund in 2025, enhancing its capacity to finance climate-resilient development across the ECOWAS region. The bank has also been a major partner for regional integration programs and the implementation of public-private sector partnerships in member states. Notable projects include the construction of a 120MW thermal station at Maria Gleta in Benin and the enhancement of the portable water supply system in Tafire Town and the surrounding communities of Badikaha and N’golodougou in Côte d'Ivoire. Through these initiatives, EBID continues to play a pivotal role in promoting economic development and integration within West Africa.
