The Emerging Markets Impact Investment Fund (EMIIF) is a development financing mechanism established by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Its primary objective is to mobilize investment capital to support the growth of impactful small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Indo-Pacific region. EMIIF adopts a 'gender lens investing' approach, encouraging investments in enterprises that positively impact women. The fund initially targets financial intermediaries operating in countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, and Fiji.

Implemented by Sarona Asset Management as the investment manager, EMIIF collaborates with technical assistance providers like Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) and Volta Capital Limited. The fund's strategy involves providing investment capital and technical assistance to financial intermediaries, which, in turn, offer financing to SMEs in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. This approach aims to enhance access to finance for SMEs, fostering inclusive and resilient economic development in these regions.

EMIIF's investment focus encompasses various sectors, including financial services, healthcare, education, agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, retail, transportation, telecommunications, tourism, real estate, media, construction, and more. The fund seeks to invest in growth and late-stage companies, with individual investments ranging from $1 million to $5 million. By targeting these sectors and stages, EMIIF aims to drive sustainable economic growth and development in emerging markets, aligning with Australia's foreign aid objectives and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
