Equity Gap

Equity Gap is an Edinburgh-based angel investment syndicate established in 2010 to connect private investors with emerging businesses seeking early-stage funding. The syndicate comprises over 150 active members, including industry leaders, business professionals, academics, and entrepreneurs from Scotland and beyond, many of whom are expatriates or former residents eager to support early-stage companies in Scotland. These businesses are often pre-revenue but have validated products or services that have undergone a pre-investment commercialization process. Ideally, investments are eligible for SEIS/EIS advance assurance, and the businesses are based in Scotland or willing to relocate.

Equity Gap typically invests between £100,000 and £500,000 at the initial or seed investment stage, with additional match funding from Scottish Enterprise. The syndicate regularly co-invests alongside other business angel syndicates, venture capitalists, and the Scottish National Investment Bank to make more substantial investments into scale-up opportunities across a wide range of sectors in Scotland. The syndicate's portfolio includes over 30 companies, leveraging more than £70 million in total investment, and has created over 400 jobs, primarily in Scotland, across sectors such as consumer products, food and drink, life sciences, and SaaS.

Equity Gap aims to make investing accessible and enjoyable for its members through collaboration, a peer network, and centralized administration. The syndicate supports prospective companies with access to its broad base of knowledge and expertise, including support for pitching to members. Members benefit from being part of a private, member-led organization, seeing curated investment opportunities, and sharing knowledge and expertise to inform investment decisions. The syndicate fosters an inclusive culture with regular events to help members get to know each other and the portfolio companies.

Equity Gap is a company registered in Scotland (company number: SC378060) and is authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (firm reference number: 955933). It has permissions to bring about deals in investments and to make arrangements with a view to transactions in investments in companies incorporated in the UK.
