Investor Details
Established in 2012, Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSD Africa) is a non-profit company based in Nairobi, Kenya, funded by UK aid from the UK Government. Its mission is to reduce poverty across sub-Saharan Africa by building efficient, robust, and inclusive financial markets. FSD Africa operates as a market facilitator, applying resources, expertise, and research to address financial market failures and deliver lasting impact. It works across sub-Saharan Africa on issues related to both financial inclusion and finance for growth.
FSD Africa is part of a network of nine Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) programmes operating across sub-Saharan Africa, known as the FSD Network. Together, the network provides over £50 million annually in financial support to high-potential financial market development programmes and employs over 150 financial sector experts based in local offices across Africa. The network fosters collaboration, best practice transfer, economies of scale, and coherence between development agencies, donors, financial institutions, practitioners, and government entities involved in financial market development in sub-Saharan Africa.
FSD Africa's programming is designed to address systemic challenges within Africa’s financial markets, aiming to spark large-scale and long-term change. It focuses on sectors such as financial services, technology, healthcare, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education, manufacturing, retail, telecommunications, transport and logistics, media and entertainment, real estate, tourism and hospitality, and construction. The institution's investment strategy encompasses various stages, including early stage, growth, late stage, pre-IPO, buyout, turnaround, and distressed investments, with investment sizes ranging from $1 million to $50 million.
