Finnfund

Finnfund is a Finnish development financier and impact investor dedicated to building a sustainable future by investing in businesses that address global development challenges. Each year, Finnfund invests between €200 million and €250 million in 20 to 30 companies across developing countries, with a particular emphasis on sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture, financial institutions, and digital infrastructure and solutions. As of 2024, Finnfund's investments, commitments, and investment decisions total approximately €1.3 billion, with about half of these investments located in Africa.

Finnfund's investment strategy focuses on providing risk capital, long-term investment loans, mezzanine financing, and expertise to businesses operating in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The company seeks projects that are profitable, socially and environmentally responsible, and produce measurable development impact in their target countries. Finnfund's ownership structure includes the State of Finland (96.6%), Finnvera (3.34%), and the Confederation of Finnish Industries (0.06%).

In addition to its core sectors, Finnfund also invests in other areas when projects align with its investment strategy and meet its requirements. The company is a member of the European Development Finance Institutions (EDFI), a group of 16 European development financiers that finance private companies in developing and transitional economies. Finnfund also manages the Finnpartnership Business Partnership programme, which promotes business activities and partnerships aimed at generating positive development impacts in target countries.
