Global Insurance Accelerator

The Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA) is a mentor-driven program established in 2015 to foster innovation in the insurance industry by supporting early-stage insurtech startups. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, a recognized insurance hub, GIA offers a 100-day program that includes seed funding, mentorship, and exposure to a network of insurance professionals and investors. The program is designed to help startups validate product-market fit and prepare for growth.

GIA's accelerator program is unique in its focus on the insurance sector, providing tailored support to startups developing solutions for the industry. Each selected company receives a $50,000 equity-based investment, converting to 5% of the company in the form of a post-money SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity). The program is structured in three phases: an initial in-person period in Des Moines, followed by a virtual phase, and concluding with a final in-person period. This hybrid approach allows startups to benefit from both local and global perspectives.

Over the years, GIA has attracted founders from multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Serbia, Brazil, and Australia. The accelerator has invested over $3 million in early-stage insurtech companies, contributing to the growth and success of numerous startups in the insurance technology space. GIA continues to play a pivotal role in driving innovation and connecting startups with established insurance companies and investors, thereby advancing the insurtech ecosystem.
