IESE Business Angels Network

IESE Business Angels Network is a platform that brings together entrepreneurs seeking financing to grow and investors looking for opportunities to invest. It acts as a meeting point for more than 230 individual investors, investment clubs, family offices, and large companies, and the startups that are raising capital. The network’s mission is to facilitate the activity of investors, offering them a curated deal flow, continuous training, and networking opportunities among members, and promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences. The network’s investment forums are well known for the business opportunities they offer, the professional level of investors who take part, and the chance to access up-to-date knowledge on what’s happening in startup investment. Since 2003, more than 350 startups have received financing through the network, for more than €55 million. While the companies are from highly diverse sectors and business models, all have a vocation to scale up and an ambition to grow. The Business Angels Network forms part of IESE’s entrepreneurial ecosystem for the development of new ventures, innovation, and growth. The network is open to alumni and non-alumni alike, investors and entrepreneurs. Network members make investment decisions on an individual basis, without input from IESE. During the 2021-22 academic year, IESE’s Business Angel Network closed 37 transactions through its investor members, totaling €4.6 million in financing. The majority of startups that received funding were based in Madrid and Barcelona, and some were receiving a second round of financing from IESE Business Angels. The most frequent sectors were healthcare and logistics. The network received more than 400 startup projects this year, 112 of which had the opportunity to present their projects during 13 investment forums. Select startups funded include Biwel, Skitude, Dietox, 500 Markets, Global Alumni, Netun Solutions, Manzaning, Vudoir, Ontech, and The Social Coin, spanning sectors from education to retail and distribution, health and well-being, to technology and industry. The network also offers programs like the Business Angels Academy, which provides training for investors interested in new technologies and entrepreneurship, aiming to boost new companies or those in the early stages of growth. The preferred investment model is co-funding with other members of the network or with risk capital firms. Additionally, IESE Women Angels is an initiative designed to increase the active participation of women in the current investor ecosystem, explaining and bringing the activity closer to potential investors, sharing experiences with the most active investors, and accompanying their immersion in current investment groups. The network is open to all – IESE alumni and others who are interested in investing in start-up firms or those in the early stages of growth. Members include business angels, venture capital companies, family offices, groups of private investors, and risk capital companies. The network is a foundational member of AEBAN (Asociación Española de Business Angels) and EBAN (European Business Angels Network).
