Innovation Network Corporation of Japan

Established in July 2009, the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) is a government-backed venture capital firm dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness of Japanese firms through open innovation. The organization provides capital and managerial support to foster next-generation businesses in promising new technologies, contributing to the innovative transformation of Japan's industrial structure. INCJ operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI).

In September 2018, INCJ underwent a reorganization, leading to the formation of Japan Investment Corporation (JIC) as a separate entity. Following this restructuring, INCJ became a subsidiary of JIC, continuing its investment activities under the framework of the Industrial Competitiveness Enhancement Act. As of March 2024, INCJ's cumulative investments amounted to JPY 1.2963 trillion, with cumulative recoveries totaling JPY 2.2490 trillion, indicating a positive overall balance.

INCJ's investment portfolio spans various sectors, including electronics, semiconductors, water utilities, wind power, life sciences, automotive, music, metering, display, machinery, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, publishing, and solar power. The firm has engaged in investments across multiple stages, from seed funding to buyouts, and has a geographical focus that includes Japan, the United States, Australia, China, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Notable investments include Japan Display, Landis+Gyr, and Seajacks International.
