JR East Start UP

JR East Start UP is the corporate venture capital arm of East Japan Railway Company, established to foster innovation and business development by investing in and collaborating with startups. The company leverages the extensive management resources and information assets of the JR East Group to support the growth of emerging businesses. Through its initiatives, JR East Start UP aims to create new value and address societal challenges by integrating startup innovations with the group's infrastructure and services.

The firm operates the JR East Startup Program, an open innovation initiative that invites startups to propose business and service ideas utilizing JR East's stations, railways, and other resources. This program has led to the adoption of numerous proposals, resulting in practical applications across various sectors, including transportation, tourism, and logistics. By providing support and resources, JR East Start UP accelerates the commercialization of innovative solutions that enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.

In April 2023, JR East Start UP established JR East Local Startup LLC to focus on regionally specialized investments and collaborations. This subsidiary aims to address local issues and support the sustained growth of local startups by leveraging the knowledge gained from the JR East Startup Program. Since its inception, JR East Local Startup has invested in companies such as Haccoba Co., Ltd. and Ensen Marugoto Co., Ltd., contributing to the revitalization of local communities and the achievement of enriched lives.
