Penjana Kapital

Penjana Kapital is a Malaysian government-owned venture capital firm established on July 1, 2020, as part of the Government of Malaysia's initiative to accelerate the development of a future innovation economy. Its primary role is to stimulate Malaysia's economy by futureproofing Malaysian businesses through innovation from start-ups, funded by private capital from strategic international and private domestic investors, matched by the government, thereby creating a vibrant and sustainable venture capital industry in Malaysia.

The firm administers the Dana Penjana Nasional, a matching fund-of-funds program, and invests in venture capital funds across various sectors and stages. Penjana Kapital has approved investments into 55 start-up companies amounting to RM547.7 million as of March 2023. The top three largest sectors that received investment are Financials & Cryptocurrency, Material & Industrials, and Consumer sectors.

In July 2024, Penjana Kapital was acquired by Khazanah Nasional, Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund, marking a significant advancement in the country's venture capital ecosystem. Following the acquisition, Penjana Kapital became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Khazanah, which established a National Fund-of-Funds with an initial allocation of RM1 billion to invest in innovative and high-growth startups via venture capital and private equity funds.
