RAG-Stiftung

Established in 2007, RAG-Stiftung is a German charitable foundation dedicated to financing the perpetual obligations resulting from the cessation of hard coal mining along the Ruhr and Saar rivers and in Ibbenbüren. These obligations primarily include pit water management, polder measures, and groundwater purification, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on the public sector and contribute to the ecological and economic transformation of former mining areas. The foundation's income is generated through a diversified investment portfolio, encompassing private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and venture capital, with investment sizes ranging from €1 million to €50 million.

Beyond its financial commitments, RAG-Stiftung actively promotes education, science, and culture related to German mining history. It supports projects that foster equal opportunities, participation, and access to education, covering the entire educational spectrum from early childhood to vocational training. The foundation also funds scientific research in post-mining regions, focusing on environmental protection and water management, in collaboration with institutions like the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum in Bochum and the Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola. Additionally, RAG-Stiftung engages in cultural initiatives that preserve mining traditions and support the protection of historical monuments.
