Ron Gula

Ron Gula is a prominent angel investor and cybersecurity expert based in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the president of Gula Tech Adventures (GTA), a venture capital firm specializing in cybersecurity investments. Under his leadership, GTA has invested in numerous cyber start-ups and supported various cyber nonprofits and projects. Prior to founding GTA, Ron co-founded and served as CEO of Tenable Network Security from 2002 to 2016, growing the company to over 20,000 customers and achieving a valuation of $3 billion at its IPO in 2018. His extensive experience includes developing Dragon, one of the first commercial network intrusion detection systems, and serving as a penetration tester at the National Security Agency (NSA).

At GTA, Ron focuses on investing in early-stage cybersecurity companies, providing both capital and strategic guidance to help them scale. His investment strategy emphasizes sectors such as artificial intelligence, manufacturing, security, and software, with a particular interest in companies that offer innovative solutions to complex cybersecurity challenges. He has served on the Board of Directors for several of GTA’s portfolio companies and has been a steadfast mentor and advisor to many founders.

Ron is also dedicated to supporting the broader cybersecurity community through philanthropic efforts. In 2021, he and his wife, Cyndi Gula, founded the Gula Tech Foundation to support cybersecurity nonprofits. Between 2021 and 2023, the Foundation awarded six $1 million grants to organizations working on cybersecurity issues such as public awareness, diversity, and the National Cybersecurity Strategy. In 2025, they launched the Cyber Ready Clinic to help nonprofits improve their cybersecurity and provide hands-on experience for people entering the cyber workforce.
