Shanghai STVC Group

Shanghai STVC Group is a Chinese state-owned private investment firm specializing in venture capital and private equity investments. Established in 1999, it is owned by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and has been a dominant player in China's investment landscape. The firm has invested a total of RMB¥ 2.4 billion in over 160 private companies, with 7 IPOs as of 2013. It currently manages RMB¥ 10 billion in assets.

The firm's investment strategy focuses on early-stage and growth-stage investments in sectors such as clean energy, energy-efficient technologies, biomedical technologies, new materials, and information technologies. Its main shareholders include the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Shanghai STVC Group has developed long-term alliances with entities like Temasek Holdings, Tsinghua Venture Capitals, Shanghai International Trust Co., Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Industry Group.

In April 2024, Shanghai State-Owned Capital Investment merged with Shanghai Science and Technology Venture Capital Group (Shanghai STVC Group) to become a state investment group with assets exceeding 100 billion yuan. By the end of 2024, the group recorded more than 170 billion yuan in combined assets under management across 15 active funds. In 2024 alone, the group deployed almost 13 billion yuan, with over 90% directed towards forward-looking, strategic, emerging industries, including biopharma, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. The group launched a 22.5-billion-yuan biomedicine industry fund-of-funds in 2024 to expand its portfolio in the biopharma sector.
