Spotlight

Spotlight is an angel investor collective based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, dedicated to supporting early-stage startups and scaleups with sustainable missions. The collective focuses on sectors such as climate technology, education technology, and health technology, aiming to make a positive social and environmental impact. Spotlight operates through two complementary vehicles: the Spotlight Angel Collective, a network of angel investors investing flexibly in impact-driven startups, and the Spotlight Seed Fund I, a €2 million RVO-backed venture fund launched in 2025 to back at least 10 early-stage Dutch impact-driven startups.

The collective's investment strategy emphasizes early-stage companies, particularly those in SaaS, marketplace, and platform businesses. Spotlight seeks founders with complementary skill sets and experience in their sector or as entrepreneurs. The initial investments range from €50,000 to €250,000, with a preference for companies headquartered and operating in the Netherlands. While the collective primarily focuses on climate tech, education tech, and health tech, it remains open to exploring innovative solutions from exceptional founders outside these sectors.

Spotlight's founders, Derk and Jochem, bring expertise in fintech, strategy, business development, edtech, and legal sectors. They are committed to making a positive impact by investing in and supporting startups and scaleups with sustainable or social missions. Transparency and collaboration are core values, as they actively share compelling investment opportunities with their group of impact angels and collaborate closely with venture capital firms to explore co-investment opportunities, ensuring that promising startups and scaleups receive the support they need at every stage of their journey.
