Swan Ventures is a boutique venture firm founded in 2000 by Dr. Jonathan Parmer, specializing in fund-of-funds investments. The firm's initial fund was designed to provide Silicon Valley physicians with opportunities to invest in a diverse portfolio of top-tier venture capital funds, emphasizing healthcare and biotechnology sectors. Over time, Swan Ventures expanded its limited partner base to include high-net-worth and institutional investors, slightly altering its investment objectives to include a greater percentage of investments outside of healthcare. The firm's name, Swan Ventures, is inspired by the Swan region in northwestern Montana, encompassing the Swan Mountain Range, the Swan Valley, and the Swan River. This area is named after the Trumpeter Swan, the largest and rarest swan species, which once nested there before being hunted to near extinction in the early 20th century. The Swan region borders Glacier National Park and forms the western boundary of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, the largest contiguous wilderness area in the lower 48 states.
