Terna Forward

Terna Forward is the corporate venture capital arm of Terna, the Italian electricity transmission system operator. Established in November 2022, it aims to support innovative Italian companies and accelerate high-impact solutions for the energy transition. The company invests in startups and enterprises with high innovation and growth potential, fostering the development of technologies that enhance the efficiency and resilience of electricity infrastructure. Through an open-innovation approach, Terna Forward not only finances disruptive initiatives but also provides its expertise to accompany them in their growth, contributing concretely to the transformation of the energy system.

In 2024, Terna Forward completed four direct investment transactions in startups: Wesii S.r.l., a leading Italian company in inspection and remote sensing services in the energy sector, for a 33% stake; Melaworks; D-orbit; and Unusuals World. Additionally, Terna Forward is a limited partner in the Energy Tech and Infra Tech sub-funds of the CDP Venture Capital’s Corporate Partners I Fund, with a total planned investment of €30 million. The Energy Tech sub-fund focuses on areas related to energy transition, such as energy efficiency, electric mobility, and management and control of grid infrastructure, while the Infra Tech sub-fund specializes in technological solutions applicable to infrastructure, including monitoring and maintenance using drones, IoT sensors, and satellite imagery.

Through these initiatives, Terna Forward actively engages in driving change with vision and determination, demonstrating how innovation can become a driver of sustainability. The company continues to support the development of technologies that can improve the efficiency and resilience of electricity infrastructure, contributing to the transformation of the energy system and the achievement of Italy's energy transition goals.
