UCSF Foundation Investment Company

Established in 2015, the UCSF Foundation Investment Company manages and invests the endowed gifts and financial assets entrusted to the UCSF Foundation in support of the university’s excellence and innovation in the health sciences. The endowment, now valued at more than $2.5 billion, facilitates UCSF’s work in education, scientific research, patient care, and public health. The non-profit UCSF Investment Company is led by its chief investment officer and governed by the Investment Company Board, which comprises selected volunteer leaders from the UCSF Board of Overseers as well as external investment and business experts.

The Investment Company employs a diversified investment strategy, allocating assets across various classes including private equity, venture capital, real estate, fixed income, hedge funds, commodities, infrastructure, distressed and special situations, ESG and impact investing, crypto, and collectibles & art. It focuses on multiple investment stages, ranging from seed and early-stage investments to growth, late-stage, pre-IPO, buyout, turnaround, and distressed situations. Geographically, the company invests both within the United States and globally, targeting a wide array of industries such as healthcare, technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, education, research, public health, medical devices, consumer goods, energy, financial services, media, telecommunications, transportation, and real estate.
