Upaya Social Ventures

Upaya Social Ventures is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating dignified jobs for individuals living in extreme poverty by supporting early-stage businesses. Founded in 2011, Upaya provides investment and consulting support to companies that are too large for microfinance but not yet ready for traditional investments. Their mission is to build scalable businesses that offer safe, stable, inclusive, and rewarding employment opportunities, thereby promoting long-term prosperity in vulnerable communities.

The organization focuses on sectors such as agriculture, food, artisanal industries, supply chain services, and initiatives addressing gender and poverty inequalities. Upaya's investment strategy is centered on impact-first principles, seeking out and supporting oft-overlooked companies that can generate transformative impacts on families, communities, and economies. Since its inception, Upaya has invested in numerous businesses, collectively creating over 50,000 dignified jobs across India.

Upaya's approach includes a social business accelerator program that combines hands-on technical advisory with tailored patient capital. This program aims to build high-potential businesses that benefit and employ the poorest and most marginalized people. By taking risks for impact and providing capital that is more patient and outcomes-driven, Upaya strives to move more people out of extreme poverty and create a dignified economy for all.
